Americans for Prosperity is the latest outside group to go on the air against Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Timothy M. Kaine, launching an ad today focuses on taxes.
The 30-second spot features a series of speakers expressing concern over the fragile economy and taking aim at Kaine’s record as governor and role as Democratic National Committee chairman.
“Every budget Tim Kaine proposed had tax increases,” one woman said.
“Tim Kaine inherited a surplus, but left us with a $4.2 billion shortfall,” a man added.
The TV ad, titled “Smarter Spending Not Higher Taxes,” begins airing today and will run for a week in markets across the state.
“We agree — Virginians do want a change in direction,” responded Kaine campaign spokeswoman Brandi Hoffine.”But, unlike the special interest groups that are propping up George Allen’s re-election campaign, we believe Virginians want to move forward with Tim Kaine’s proposals to strengthen our economy, not return to George Allen’s policies of putting tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans ahead of investments in businesses, affordable education, Medicare, Social Security, veterans’ health care, national security, and other priorities that Virginians value.”
