In his latest TV ad, Democratic U.S. Senate Timothy M. Kaine is making the pitch to Virginia seniors by taking opponent George Allen to task on the issues of Medicare and Social Security.
Titled “Shift,” the ad features multiple senior citizens criticizing Allen, a former U.S. Senator looking to reclaim the seat he lost to Jim Webb in 2006.
“In Congress, George Allen voted to partially privatize Social Security,” says one senior. “And he voted to cut Medicare,” adds another.
Another senior says “Allen now favors a plan that would increase costs for seniors and the middle class by thousands of dollars a year.”
The ad closes with a man saying, “We can’t take another chance on George Allen.”
Emily Davis, a spokeswoman for the Allen campaign, was quick to fire back, calling it “another negative, misleading attack ad – this time full of recycled scare tactics to avoid discussing his record or actual solutions for seniors.”
Davis said Allen has “a proven record of working with others to strengthen Social Security and expand Medicare coverage” and said Kaine “thinks he can back seniors into his corner with enough frightening claims about their benefits.”
