In his latest TV ad, Democratic U.S. senate candidate Timothy M. Kaine gets a little help from a friend he hopes will soon be a colleague – U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner, D-Va.
Titled “Great Team,” the ad features the former governors — who often unite on the campaign trail — trading lines against the backdrop of the state Capitol.
“As governor, I cut $5 billion in spending and balanced the budget every year,” Kaine says. “And Tim Kaine and I both cut our own pay as governors to lead by example,” adds Warner.
Kaine’s opponent, George Allen, is another former governor who cut his own pay.
“Mark Warner and I reached across party lines to get things done,” Kaine says. Warner adds that they were a “great team in Richmond,” referring to Kaine’s role as lieutenant governor under Warner’s administration.
“And we’ll be a great team in Washington,” adds Kaine.
With a slap on Kaine’s back, Warner gets the last word, pledging to “work together to restore our fiscal responsibility, grow our economy, and create jobs.”
Warner is a popular political figure in the state who has made a name for himself in the Senate by reaching across the aisle to work on fiscal issues, namely debt reduction.
