Cantor, Powell trade barbs on airwaves

With just three weeks to go until Election Day, the 7th District congressional battle between Republican incumbent Eric Cantor and Democratic challenger Wayne Powell is pushing its way onto the central Virginia airwaves already crowded with mudslinging from presidential and U.S. Senate candidates.

Cantor’s latest ad confronts Powell’s in-your-face campaigning approach, then counters with claims that Powell supports big government and raising taxes on, well, just about everything.

“Wayne Powell can’t ruin Eric Cantor, but higher taxes can ruin our economy,” the ad concludes.

Powell, meanwhile, has purchased radio time for two ads featuring “Herb and Tom” that reinforces his theme that the powerful and well-funded House Majority Leader is for sale.

“Eric Cantor works for himself and his corporate Sugar Daddies,” says Tom.
