U.S. Senator-elect Timothy M. Kaine is sticking with what works as he assumes his new role in Washington.
Kaine, who defeated fellow former governor George Allen for the seat being vacated by Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., today announced that campaign manager Mike Henry would serve as his chief of staff.
Henry is a well-known Democratic operative who previously led Kaine’s 2005 gubernatorial campaign and Sen. Mark Warner’s 2008 Senate bid. Henry recently worked as senior director for U.S. field operations at the ONE campaign to alleviate global poverty.
Jillian Martin, who served as the Kaine campaign’s policy director, will now serve as his transition director. Martin will not be new to Capitol Hill, having previously worked for Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Robert Byrd as well as Rep. Dan Maffei.
Marc Cheatham, the Kaine campaign’s scheduling director, is now the Senator-elect’s transition Scheduler. Cheatham, a former U.S. Marine Corps sergeant, served as Kaine’s executive aide at the Democratic National Committee and worked in Kaine’s gubernatorial administration.
“I am thrilled this team has agreed to assist me as we set up a Senate office that will serve all Virginians. Their expertise will be invaluable during this process,” Kaine said in a release.
Additional transition announcements will be made in the coming weeks.
