Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, the presumptive Republican gubernatorial candidate, has hired the state party’s former executive director to run his 2013 campaign.
Dave Rexrode ran the Republican Party of Virginia after serving as deputy campagin manager for Gov. Bob McDonnell’s successful 2009 run for the Executive Mansion.
“Dave’s knowledge of the Commonwealth, his work ethic and vast experience with the grassroots here in Virginia is exactly the type of leadership we need to run a successful and multidimensional campaign that will allow us to keep Virginia moving in a positive direction – staying focused on jobs, public safety and real transportation solutions,” Cuccinelli said in a statement released Monday afternoon.
“I am honored to be working for a man of principle, someone who you never have to guess where he stands on an issue, and who understands our Commonwealth and our challenges,” Rexrode said of the attorney general, in the same statement.
Before working on McDonnell’s campaign, Rexrode was National Coalitions Director for the McCain for President campaign.
Cuccinelli, a former state senator elected attorney general in 2009, is expected to face Democrat Terry McAuliffe in November.
