Sen. Timothy M. Kaine announced a weekend trip to Bahrain this morning, where he plans to visit the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/U.S. Fifth Fleet and participate in the 2013 Manama Dialogue, an annual security summit hosted by the Institute for International Strategic Studies.
On Friday, Kaine will meet with officials and Virginians serving with the Navy’s Fifth Fleet and Combined Maritime Forces, according to a statement released by his office today. Kaine will also tour the Norfolk-based USS San Jacinto.
On Friday evening, he will join the panel discussion during the Manama conference’s opening session. Panelists include Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, His Royal Highness Prince Turki Al Faisal of Saudi Arabia and former Kuwaiti Foreign Minister, Sheik Muhammed Al Salem Al Sabah. His plans for Saturday and Sunday are not known at this point.
Kaine chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near Eastern and Central and South Asian Affairs.
